Prehistoric Farm DNA Lab: Complete Sets and Get an Egg
PlayersLast updated 2026-10-13
Complete the fossil collection shown for your target, return to Dr. Ivy at Home Island’s DNA Lab, and choose Get Egg. Continue with Visit the Incubator and Place the Egg. A fossil count from one tutorial is not the recipe for every dinosaur, and an egg intended for a quest should stay unhatched.
Check that the collection is ready
Open the Fossils menu after digging. Ricoko’s original recording says green means the collected set can be combined. Jurassic Dinoz’s October 5 session reads Ready to extract DNA and then returns to the fossil station. Those are useful readiness cues: checking them avoids taking an unfinished collection back and assuming one extra fossil guarantees an egg.
CHALLS’ beginner route mentions at least five trilobite finds. A separate first-play scene says three out of six and three more needed, but the narration does not establish whether that counter describes one recipe or several collection entries. Preserve your actual target’s displayed requirement. Neither recorded count replaces a named recipe such as Kai’s twelve-shard batch.
Exchange and incubation steps
- Keep the fossils needed for the selected egg. The original money/boat session sells only some spare fossils while preserving the next egg’s stock.
- Travel back to Home Island. The recorded beginner route uses the Home waterfall landmark; Dr. Ivy and the DNA Lab are on Home, rather than the distant dig site.
- Talk to Dr. Ivy and use Get Egg for the ready collection. Read which egg the exchange gives you before deciding whether it belongs in an incubator or a quest hand-in.
- For a ranch dinosaur, choose Visit the Incubator, then Place the Egg and select the egg. Wait for that egg’s warming period, hatch it and place the newborn on your ranch.
- Feed the newborn and keep Belly above half while it grows. Incubation ends with a hatchling; ranch feeding is the following process, not another fossil exchange.
Leave quest eggs unhatched
Kai’s Panthalassa access sequence uses 12 Dunkleosteus Shards for three Dunkleosteus Eggs. Collect those shards from Devonian rocks using Silver or better, exchange at Home, and give Kai all three eggs without hatching them. This is one batch producing three eggs: requesting the three quest eggs does not require 36 shards.
Yara separately wants three Sea Eggs of any kind, also unhatched. Their shards come from Panthalassa rocks with Titanium and are exchanged with Dr. Ivy at Home. A dinosaur already placed on the ranch is not the same stock as an unhatched quest egg. See the complete Kai/Yara sequence before using those eggs.
The recorded Hallucigenia and Tiktaalik examples warm for 300 and 150 seconds respectively, with interpreted caption spellings and October 5 scope. Use the egg timer planner for a supplied duration, or read the feeding guide if the hatchling has stopped growing.
Where is the DNA laboratory, and how do I unlock an egg?
The DNA Lab location is Home Island with Dr. Ivy; the recorded return uses the waterfall landmark. Dig until the selected Fossils collection is green/combinable or shows Ready to extract DNA. Return Home, choose Get Egg, then Visit the Incubator and Place the Egg for a ranch result. Kai’s twelve Dunkleosteus Shards instead produce three eggs for an unhatched hand-in. That specific batch does not make twelve the cost of every species.
Is the lab worth using for a rarity or tier goal?
It is the supplied exchange route for a completed fossil set, and useful when your next result is that egg. It does not provide an all-dinosaur rarity tier list, a choice among ranked laboratories or a guaranteed rare reroll. For an Albino Rex goal, the source describes fusion instead and its actual recipe remains unsupplied. Keep fossil farming stock for your selected collection and separate a quest egg from one you intend to hatch.
